2027 Wrath Kit List

Compulsory Carried Kit

The Wrath is a non-stop, self-reliant race through some of the most remote country in the Scottish Highlands. All compulsory kit must be worn or carried from the start until you finish or formally withdraw (Race Rule 26). These items are mandatory for your safety and help ensure you can look after yourself in poor weather, darkness, remote terrain, delays or an emergency, while help may be some time away.

This is the minimum required kit and applies to The Wrath, Wrath Challenger South and Wrath Sprint South unless stated. You may carry additional items for comfort, warmth or safety. Protect clothing, medical kit and critical safety items in waterproof bags.

Any item marked SPARE must be carried in addition to what you are wearing at the start or when leaving a checkpoint. See the Rules & Info tab for the full spare-item rule.

Rules & Info

Quick intro

The Wrath is a non-stop, self-reliant race. All compulsory kit must be worn or carried from the start until you finish or formally withdraw (Race Rule 26).

This list is the minimum required kit. You may carry additional items for comfort, warmth or safety, and we strongly recommend protecting clothing, medical kit and critical safety items in waterproof bags.

If you are unsure whether an item will pass kit check, contact Race HQ before the event.

The spare-item rule

Any item listed as spare must be carried in your pack / vest and must be in addition to what you are wearing at the start or when leaving a checkpoint.

For example, if you leave a checkpoint wearing your insulated jacket, you must still have another spare insulated jacket in your pack. The same principle applies to spare base layers and spare socks.

Kit checks

Pre-race kit check

  • Kit check takes place as part of registration on Saturday 1 May 2027 at Braxi Hall, Fort William, during your allocated window.
  • Kit checkers may check a full kit list or a random selection of items.
  • If an item is missing or unsuitable, you may be required to complete a full kit check.
  • You cannot register or collect a race number until you have passed kit check.
  • Borderline or failed items may be recorded, including descriptions or photos, to avoid disputes later.

On-course and checkpoint kit checks

  • Kit may be checked at checkpoints, at welfare locations, randomly on course and at the finish (Race Rule 27).
  • If mandatory kit is lost, damaged or becomes unusable, tell Race HQ as soon as reasonably possible. You may be required to replace it before continuing (Race Rule 28).

Missing kit penalties

  • Missing compulsory kit may result in a 1-hour time penalty per item, at the discretion of the Race Director or Equipment Manager (Race Rule 65).
  • You may be held at a checkpoint or welfare location until the missing item has been replaced (Race Rule 64).
  • Time penalties form part of your official race time and may cause you to miss a later cut-off or the overall time limit (Race Rule 66).
  • Multiple missing items may result in a warning, withdrawal or disqualification.
  • Deliberately carrying less than the compulsory kit list may result in disqualification.
  • Final decisions sit with the Race Director and Race HQ.

Recommended additional kit / spares

The items above are the minimum mandatory kit. Participants should also consider the following, especially in poor weather or for longer distances:

  • Additional warm clothing.
  • Sturdier waterproofs rather than very lightweight waterproof layers.
  • Spare small safety items in the drop bag, such as gloves, red lights, hats, neck tubes and eye protection.
  • Spare first aid and foot-care items in the drop bag, including spare medication, tape, needles and blister-care supplies.
  • Power bank, trekking poles and a water filter are all worth considering.
